Christmas Afternoon Tea ’24

We started doing afternoon teas a couple of years ago after I got insanely inspired by youtubers showing these beautiful experiences at London hotels. They are so fun and our kids absolutely love them. We can’t stop doing them! They make everyone so happy and are so fun for us to do and plan for!

My home-made gingerbread reindeer cookies looked so pretty on the plates!

One of the reasons I love these is all the decorating and setting of the table and making things pretty. I just love doing this. I definitely have a “dishease” and a problem buying too many dishes! I’ve got 4 sets of dishes and 2 tea/dessert sets! Yikes! We have our everyday Corelle, our Frankoma, our Noritake wedding china, and now this set here of Christmas dishes my mom gave me. My tea / dessert sets are my Royal Doulton Brambly Hedge and my Wedgewood Peter Rabbit. I really do need to downsize, but I’m not sure I want to! Pottery and china is something that calls my heart and it always has. But enough about dishes, let’s go!

Here is the room the night before by candlelight. I had washed all the dishes and set the table earlier.

So, my husband loves to cook and I love to bake and set tables- it’s magic when love and hard work come together and this year was the best yet! Here is our menu:

Savories- egg salad sandwiches, Carolina pulled pork sandwiches, pimento cheese sandwiches, mini quiches

Scones- clotted cream, cranberry scones, plain scones, strawberry jam, lemon curd

Pastries- macrons, cheesecake, chocolate truffles, large gingerbread cookies with royal icing

Drink- hot earl grey tea, Christmas cider, water

Last year I did a Narnia / CS Lewis theme, the year before an Agatha Christie theme, this year it was just a Christmas theme!

Only the tablecloth is mine! Everything else is my mothers. The dishes are from the 80s “Holly Traditions” and an old defunct department store, the glasses are Crystal d’arques, the silver is Wallace Grand Baroque.
Cheesecake in my Mosser jadeite cake stand, mini quiches and cranberry-orange scones on the 2-tier tray. We got this food from Aldi!
Chocolates and holiday macrons from Aldi on the other 2-tier serving tray.
Making tea with the coffemaker!
Lovely
My garland I made by tracing my Martha by Mail Nutcracker and Mouse King copper cookie cutters.

All over! (The green teapot held the cider, the white one the tea. They are both empty!)

The most important part is being together and having fun with our family. All too soon it’s done and time to do the dishes. -And then have a nap!

With lovely Christmas foods and memories from Kansas Street to you,

-Jaime
