Last year at this time something big was happening at our house! Our daughter graduated with a film degree but her capstone project was filmed at our home and the local movie theatre. They made a fun horror movie, of course! Hubs and I were almost crew ourselves as he borrowed a trailer, loaded equipment and hauled everything back and forth. Both of us did the catering for two nights for a crew of 40. It was WILD. I never dreamed I would be involved with anything like this and I sure am glad I was.

The college students we worked with made me have a lot of hope for the future! They were GREAT kids! Amazing people who were incredibly kind, professional, and good to our old house. They were so respectful to us. I teared up a bit when it was over. Because we opened our home all of these students got to do their project and graduate. That was something to sacrifice for.
I took some pictures of the equipment each day. I was fascinated by all of it. There was also a locked trailer on our property with more equipment!

I wanted everyone to have everything they needed. Crafty (food and drink) was a big deal. We had a coffee and tea bar set up and there were lots of snacks. The dining room was command central.

The crew decorated everything for Halloween as it was a slasher at a Halloween party. The run time was only 15 minutes, but they shot for three days!

When we signed up to cater the two main meals we did not realize it was going to be “lunch” in the middle of the night! 2:30-3:00 in the morning!!! They were filming all night long. Which meant we had to sleep right after work (we didn’t take off) and we had to have a hotel room for 2 nights so we could sleep! It was an absolutely crazy time. Weeks before I had cooked everything and then froze it. Cookies, brownies, 4 lasagnas, pulled pork, pies, you name it! Josh did a ton too and my mom! It was a team effort! But we made it and everyone voted our daughter’s project the best one and the yummiest food! Yay!
Yes, it was crazy, but without doing all this everyone was in a huge bind and they didn’t have funding for a location or catering, so we did what parents and grandparents (my mom helped with funds) do- we made it happen.
I didn’t realize how professional everything would be or just how dire the circumstances were. I am happy to say that everyone got their project credit and graduated! Hurray! Worth it!
The funniest part? We went knocking on doors in our neighborhood to let our sweet neighbors know what was going to happen and that the streets might be filled with cars! They were fine with it and I think even got a little excited! A movie was being filmed!
With movie-excitement on Kansas Street to you,
-Jaime
PS- I waited a year to blog about this cause we had to keep it under wraps for a little bit. The movie is called “Rejection Therapy.” I’m such a proud momma!
